  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Toby Monte -- An insightful and compassionate approach to healing yourself, and the world : Redeeming Heartache: How Past Suffering Reveals Our True Calling reveals to us the different ways that we get hurt along the way, and how our self-protective reactions separate us from the joy and unity that is our birthright. And then, with great compassion and insight, we are shown the way home again. I loved the honesty and insight in these pages, as well as the authors' personal sharing. This is a beautiful book of hope and healing that all people would benefit from reading, a book the world needs now more than ever. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Lisa Uidl -- Truly Life-Giving : I read a lot--and I read a lot about trauma, healing, and care. This book offers the best of the best. It is gentle and fierce, kind and honest, insightful, brilliant, and hope-filled. We live in a time where the words "life-changing" are overused. The work of this book will change your life if you are courageous enough to open your heart and your world to its contents. I am deeply grateful for what this book (and the accompanying workshop) offered me. Big thanks to Dan Allender and Cathy Loerzel! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Riley -- Very Important Book : This book is rich with knowledge of how heartache can be redeemed leading to following your own calling. It’s a book I started and cannot put down; I’m sure this book will become a companion in my life. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2021 )
  • 2.0 out of 5 stars from kirk summers -- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2021 : I would have benefited by a more thorough boiling-down of high concepts (and with the politics and social justice warrior thinking left out). This does not mean that the authors' concepts are unreachable, though at times the book seemed too esoteric, rather that it fell short in explaining well how these concepts are applicable where the rubber meets the non-scholastic road. If you're in academia, it's likely better suited for you. ( There is actually a lot of good in this book, which is why it has disappointed me. The authors are clearly brilliant, yet not enough to make their most important contributions accessible to the reader (well....not this one). )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Elizabeth A -- Biblical insight to trauma and how it can effect us. : I love the pairings of the priest, prophet, and king with stranger, orphan, and widow. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Buy. This. Book. : Buy the book. Period. It will change you, your communities and your family for generations to come. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from 1111 -- An amazing book! : This book was an almost excruciating attunement to my woundedness and also the potential for healing and beauty in my life and those of others. Thank you! ( Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2021 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from ox -- Didn't live up to the hype for me : I was pretty excited for this book from what I heard listening to 'The Place We Find Ourselves'. It has some good content and stories in here, but I couldn't help but feel like the pairing of the types of orphan, stranger, and widow with priest, prophet, and king/queen (respectively) felt kind of forced and awkward. The adherence to this lens or purview for the work made me it feel difficult to really connect with the central idea of Jesus redeeming those places we are broken specifically to send us back into where we were wounded, but in grace and glory (if I'm accurately recalling what I heard the book was about as presented in the podcast).
